Maria Casares & Albert Camus letters
As part of the London Spanish Film Festival 2026.
September 2026
Greta Scacchi and Marco Gambino perform a selection of letters exchanged between María Casares and Albert Camus, tracing a passionate relationship that unfolded over fifteen years through love, separation, theatre and writing.
Casares and Camus met in Paris in 1944 and began a passionate relationship that continued, with periods of separation, until Camus’s death in 1960. Their correspondence between 1944 and 1959 comprises a substantial record of that relationship.
This performance was devised by Professor María Delgado & Joana Granero, director of the LSFF.
“I found with you a life force I’d thought I lost.”
– Albert Camus, August 1951
