High Heels and Nervous Breakdowns: Almodóvar’s Women
(I did the photographic documentation of the event)
Almodovar’s season @ BFI (24 Sep 2016)
“This special event – with lightning talks, clips and discussion – promises to be lively and provocative exploration of the way women are represented in Almodóvar’s films.
We are delighted to announce that Marisa Paredes will join us for this event. Paredes is one of Almodóvar’s most significant collaborators. Most notably, she played lead roles in High Heels and The Flower of My Secret. During this lively event, she will be interviewed by Maria Delgado (with translation provided by Pablo Romero Fresco), discussing her collaborations with Almodóvar, and the way he represents women and their stories in general.
With complex women at the heart of his narratives, is Almodóvar a supremely feminist director? Or does his gay male gaze fetishise women in a shallow way? What of the preponderance of sexual violence in his films? At this special event, a range of commentators will give their views on the way women are represented in Almodóvar’s films through provocative presentations and lively debate. Join us to share your own views.”
