One World Living

Organized visits by London Councils

Photographic documentation.

One World Living is one of the themes covered by London Councils  Collaborative Climate Programme. Its goal is to reduce consumption emissions by focusing on food, textiles, electricals and plastics.

The outputs of the programme focus on a culture of sustainability amongst Londoners where new attitudes and behaviours around diet, sustainable product choices, food waste, repair, reuse recycling and refills are normalised, and an enabling environment where Londoners are provided with accessible and convenient means to take practical actions in these areas.

As part of this project, London Councils organises visits with representatives of several London boroughs to key places that can be seen as good examples of best practices and success stories when it comes to tackling climate change and its causes.

Today, we visited Fixing Factory Camdem.

This visit at Hubbub was the official launch of the One World Living Single-use Plastics Pledge, an ambitious commitment which supports London boroughs to: “Eliminate problematic single-use plastics and transition to reuse in council operations and delivered services by 2030″

Developed with WRAP and ReLondon, this initiative supports, enables, and provides resources for local authorities to take the boldest action against plastic pollution.

Key Aspects of the Pledge:

  • Target: Eliminate problematic single-use plastics and switch to reusables in council services and operations by 2030.
  • Partnership: The pledge is part of the broader One World Living programme, designed for London boroughs, with support from WRAP and ReLondon.
  • Focus: It targets reducing consumption emissions,, improving waste management, and encouraging a circular economy, as part of a goal to reduce London’s consumption emissions by two-thirds by 2030.
  • Action: It encourages, at minimum, the elimination of plastics listed in UK government bans, with a broader aim to remove all unnecessary items.
