The dark Room
by Angela Betzien
Directed by Katia Elsianli
November 2024
At the Tower Theatre, Stoke Newington.
A motel room in Australia’s Northern Territory. Six souls, three apparently different stories.
Youth worker, Anni, is trying to help Grace, a feral child. Stephen, a policeman and his wife Emma are returning from a wedding. Joseph, a young man, is haunting another police officer, Craig. When their stories begin to connect in the past and present, a dark secret is about to be revealed.
Angela Betzien’s thought-provoking play exposes a faulty society that neglects the vulnerable to feed the ego of the strongest. With moments of high tension, uncertainty and disturbing truth, it’s all much closer to everyday life than we may think.
