The Night Alive

The Night Alive

by Conor McPherson*. Directed by Allan Hart.

March 2024

At the Tower Theatre, Stoke Newington.

“You only get a few goes. At life. You don’t get endless goes.”

Tommy rents a rundown, junk-filled room in his uncle Maurice’s house in Dublin. He scrapes a living doing odd jobs with his sidekick, Doc. When Aimee enters his life by a chance encounter, she brings her own problems, particularly when Kenneth turns up. Life then begins to change for all the characters.

The Night Alive premiered in London in 2013 and transferred to New York where it won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play.

*(I did the production photos for ‘The Weir’, the 1st play of Connor McPherson at the Royal Court Upstairs, back in 1999.)
